Default Old newspaper articles about Falcons in the day

A few gems from the national library's newspaper archives, found while trawling through them this afternoon.

Police in 120mph Car Chase - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article110693030

'Immaculate' Phase III in canberra classifieds for $800, 1974 (2/3 down second column) - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article110769677

The Swansong for the mighty HO - 1972 - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article102003623

Another from the Canberra times - "Deathtrap or family fun car" bemoaning in one part how dangerous HOs, XU1s and the rest will be when they're old, like three or four years old. heh. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article101992363

And another from 1972 about the police interceptors with GT-like gear under a Falcon 500 body - being sold off and replaced - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article101995783

There's a lot of cruft there, and the interface can be a little unwieldy trying to find precisely where a search result appears, but it's still grand reading.

And as a last - a letter to the editor posted in 1972 that reads like just about any forum post here re: the supercar-scare beat-up: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article101994903

The Phase 3 ad for $800 sounds like a scam, when a HR premier is going for $1400 and a Hillman Hunter GT is $1500.

Phase 3 is "$800 t.o.t.". Never seen "t.o.t." in an Ad before? Maybe it means 'take over terms' or something like that???

Yep - before credit companies discovered better ways of getting your hard earned "take over terms" was quite common.

Some excellent reading there Nanoraptor, cheers for that.....

On the subject of T.O.T I bought my XC GXL the same way, the poor bugger that I got it of could hardly afford the repayments let alone feed fuel to the 351, it was 9 months old and had less than 3k on the clock.......

T.O.T was a very popular way to get in to a new(ish) car without having to jump through all the hoops of getting a loan, getting a loan back then was not as easy as it is today.....

Almost laughed out loud reading about the poor coppers trying to chase down that stolen GTHO. They wouldnt have had a chance.

Except it probably wouldn't have been funny for the owner. Wonder if he eventually got it back?

These days the police would just wave the car goodbye with no chases, being perceived as too risky, with the thief getting off free if he did get caught.
