Default HSV GTO question

Hi guys,

I know this is a Ford Forum, but I thought I would get opinions from both sides. Is there any reason to stay clear of GTO's (the 5.7L)? With fuel prices the way they are and the new VE comming out what will prices be like for these at the end of the year? (manual of course)!

If you had enough money to purchase such a car I'd like to think you'd be educated enough to make a decision like this on your own! :

I reckon. My mate bought a VX Clubby R8 last week. Sounds nice, goes hard but when I looked at the fuel consumption, I know why I ain't buying a V8- it read 22.8lt/100km.

My AU3 XR8 is great on fuel when cruising. Mash the loud pedal and expect issues with fuel in any car.

With the VE coming out, the GTO will lose a lot of its value very rapidly - particularly with the volatility of Holden resale as the market awaits the impact of the VE. Personally, I'd steer clear of it and instead buy a GT or GT-P. You can't go wrong there, get the 6-speed auto as well and you'll really fall in love with life, and the intricacies of owning a classic no slapping V8. Also, scientific research has shown that if you buy the ford, women will find you much more attractive. For more info, check out these websites:

or

Good luck with your purchase.

I think I have posted this before in other threads but I will say it again - my boss's monaro has been getting 9.6L / 100km, that being said it is doing 90% hwy km's. Same engine with exhaust and tuning.

The value of the GTO is that it’s a coupe body. VE won’t have a coupe body for a little while yet. While VE will have an impact on resale value the coupe aspect will shelter it to a degree.

It’s essentially a different product to the cars VE have launched with. It’s the same for the wagon and Ute.

If you are set on a Holden and you don’t need a coupe I would be checking out the SS myself. It will be a far better car over the GTO even though it is a sedan and probably about the same money.

Relative to something like the F6 the GTO does not seem to hold its value very well or am I wrong? Cos otherwise an F6 it would be! The only gripe about the GTO is the ****house interior!

I take it you believe the GTO has depreciated more and is cheaper then the F6 therefore falling into your price bracket?

I wouldn't know how GTO prices are standing up but I don't think the VE would have much bearing on increasing that depreciation.

You have lost me a bit. Do you have a price range in mind?
