Who insures police cars? Would imagine it would be a massive insurance bill, considering even insuring a taxi is very costly.

usually self insured or through TMF (Treasury Managed Fund)
it's not like per vehicle either, it's a whole of fleet policy |

I am also guilty of leaving the windows down & car unlocked at times, however I understand the unlocked rule was introduced to reduce car theft. I also recall some years ago a mate of dad's was refused an insurance payout for his stolen car because he left it unsecured.
I also believe that most police are hard working, honest trustworthy family people often doing a hard job most of us would not dare do. Unfortunitally the people who create the laws we are all meant to follow are the same idots who allow undesirables to walk out of court with punishments that don't fit the crime & generally offer little deterant to repeat or step up their criminal activities. So the police are undertaking the job they are paid to do. |

Stop using logic DashGT, no place for it in a cop bashing thread.
The police were obviously talking total loss replacement cost and onto going costs. The problem is that little truth is not as much fun is it?

Whatever, so you know the technical aspects of ballistic armour, plate recognition systems, their computer systems etc? If so I am glad you do because I don't.
While you are at it is it ok that we spend $17k per life pack monitor, $7k per stretcher and $5k per stair chair? I wound not want our service to exceed your expectations on what is reasonable expenditure on operational equipment.

I really don't understand the constant contradiction of the public. They want cops to do their job and lock up criminals but don't want them to be sufficiently equipped to do so because it costs money. Err isn't that what taxes are for?

Exactly! I cant seem to think of one piece of unnecessary equipment in a police vehicle. Stuff costs money, its just the way it works.

It is like that in all the emergency services in all states. People don't want to pay for it but they all want emergency services in a moments notice, highly skilled and equipped with the latest tech when they need them. Any other time the emergency services cost too much.
