Since Ford are pulling their Aussie manufacturing plug, will the value of second-hand Fords increase? Over the short term or long term? Will second-hand Fords decrease in value as people move to other manufacturers fearing reduced supply of Ford parts? Should we hang onto our old ladies?

Poverty pack models will drop and remain low, performance models after an initial drop will maintain and eventually increase in value as they become sort after by enthusiasts (how long it takes before the value increases is anyone's guess).
Hand on heart, I will be purchasing a GT(P) in 3-4 years time (2014-2016 model) for the Mrs to drive around and ferry the kids in and I hope to never sell it.

will ford keep parts going for 10 years? i think they will run out before then and I was planning on buying a used late model terrritory in a few years after kids but i would feel much better buyer and older one as i know at least there will be lots of parts at the wreckers when they stop making them. buy a 2014 or later falcon you will not find many parts at wreckers once the new parts dry up.
So I would think they would decrease in value for this reason. maybe FPV's will hold value well as long as they are not modfied.

Will used falcons increase in value?
nobody wants to buy them now as it is new or used......... approaching the cull & afterwards the used market will be totally flooded with them, with every seller playing a game of "drop the price by thousands" tag each week to make a sale. Think Mitsubishi 380, but worse as the supply will far outweigh the demand due to the sheer numbers of falcons made. Im trying to get my hands on a low km wagon before they get too run down |

A few months ago i was thinking of selling my XA GT & buy a motorhome, but i might keep it now & buy a rooftop tent & cruise Australia in it.

Us enthusiasts aside, rationally, the large 4dr sedan is dead in market share terms. The Falcon/Terri doesn't have the cache of BM/Merc.
The Magna slumped in resale when it made the announcement of closure at a time when there was still a market for the big 4dr and were practically giving away the last remaining stock! How the hell are Ford going to keep selling for 3 1/2 years a car which they have officially announced as an orphan to a public that have turned their back on the class? The clock is ticking on Commodore.....the truth is always in the sales figures.

The brand will certainly survive with its broad range of predominantly FWD vehicles including that version of small/medium SUVs.
Increasingly 4WD obsession seems to be trending to the FWD version for vehicles that spend their time on bitumen. Fashion/status seems to drive everything these days.

I'm sure in years to come it will, really anything iconic that ceases production eventually comes collectible even if there is a lot around. In 20 years time though there wont be too many B-series floating around especially the XR and FPV models.
Look at the E series, its nearly 20 years on since the last one went through the factory doors and you don't see too many (unmolstered, low k's) Tickford EF/Ls, and if you want to buy one in said condition you'd have to pay upwards of 5k, which isn't bad for an almost 20 year old car. While the Falcon a family sedan, it is an aussie icon and it will always hold it's racing heritage. 'IF' I was personally going to take a shot at getting something that is going to shoot up in value in the near future I'd probably go for an X series, as the ones that have not been rotting in paddocks or rusting away in driveways or clicking over 400,000ks have gone up in recent years.

no different to how it already is. We don't know whats going to happen in the future, but the way governments are going, i'd be surprised if we're 'allowed' to drive old cars around in the future.

And i just sold my fully optioned T3 TS 50 with 70,000km on it. The owner probably just picked up $10,000 in value if he keeps it a few years

You would have to think that anything with the S/C 5.0l will become priceless.
It will be to 2017 and beyond what the 71 P3 HO has been since '72, the last of a breed. The other thing to look out for is anything with an i6T. |

I think that Falcon values will do pretty much what Valiant Values did.
The Valiant pretty much died the same tortured & undeserved death that the Falcon is currently enduring & their value was little more than scrap metal in the 1980's. Try buying a cheap usable Valiant nowadays. All of the remaining examples are considered classic and commanding good dollars. So yes I think that in 30 years time any Falcon even AU's will be worth a good $$ but for the next 10 or 15 years garden variety Falcons will be hard to give away. When people say that if you only ever buy used cars you are not helping the manuacturer except by maybe buying the odd spare part from it's dealers they are very wrong. If there is a strong demand for used Falcons for example then the used value stays comparitively high. Comparitively high used car values mean good depreciation rates. Good depreciation rates help to sell new cars of the same make and/or model so buying a used Falcon is actually helping Ford Australia. |

If the price drops out of the Falcon i can see the Commodore taking a hit as well, as there will be a lot of cheap Falcons out there.

... which begs the question, Why not invest in a sought-after high end Ford and tuck it away for 20 - 30 years. Gotta have the cash to start with, of course, and the discipline to limit its use to 'Sunday drives', but it could just give a nice non-taxable 'superannuation' in years to come.
