Hey guys i got my 2.0ltr engine (scored on ebay for $70) and have purched everything thin i need to rebuild the bottom end (forged pistons, gasket kit, all the barings, rings etc) but now its time for the head.
to start with, is it only the valve seats that need to be changed with hardened seats to run unleaded? its gonna be my street car but i would like a nice semi lumpy sound and a bit of go in her so what sorta cam should i look @ getting for it? (its only gonna be running the stock 2ltr carby for a while until i get all the equipment required for fuel injection) Thx DavO |

When I did the head on mine I had the largest SS valves that could fit - stops the valves pulling down into the heads which is a common problem as the valve springs are very strong. DO NOT put heavier valve springs as they will run to 7000RPM with the standard ones. As for the cam, I used a Watson and had it ground to the English RS motor specs which is not much different from the Aussie cam original timing, but a bit higher lift. It is good for 7000RPM also and really goes hard from 3500 RPM on. I use the original carby.

OK, found the specs of the cam.
Timing is 26/66:66/26. The original is 24/64:70/18. The reason for the staggered exhaust timing on the Australian engine is to do with exhaust emissions I was told. Lift is 0.255", up from standard 0.249". Oh, and the valve head dias. are inlet 1.75" (from 1.65) and exhaust 1.5" (from 1.4). Valve clearances for the cam are (recommended by Watsons) inlet .010" (from.008) and exhaust .012" (from .010) Last edited by T3man; 09-04-2005 at 06:52 PM. |

hi
just a short note I had a cam done to my 2ltr for $112.00 works great with std carby 280 lift 280 durr but needed new springs at $230.00 set for double valve springs(helpers) revs great 7500rpm+ |
