I like the Sandbarra. I remember reading about the build and thinking how nicely done it was.

Ta for that, I do admire a great piece of engineering, though glad they changed those hideous wheels for the GTS rally lookalikes on it now.

Long Time CayeenS 955/9PA owner here, can confirm the 955 PIG are a very solid, fast & good car, i would tow the Bertram24 wih it, go on long drives, a wonderful machine.
Unfortunately I layed my PIG up during covid & had to replace both fuel pumps & the fuel relays..& the battery..all obvious stuff that would happen sitting a car for a couple years...a diy muffler bypass is all they need for exhaust to sound good..

The last time I saw an L300 (anything) it was a total POS, blowing smoke, misfiring, slow to accelerate etc.

The fact is:

When you buy something, it will only last as long as:

A. the manufacturer designed it to.

And,

B. how YOU looked after it, after you purchased it. (if you didn't change the oil, and all of a sudden, it gets a bad name because it starts using oil and blowing smoke.. Read: Mitsubishi Magna here as my example)...

These engine ear guys are super smart. They build in 'obsolescence' for a reason. So they can capitalize on the owners lack of servicing, and make the owners go buy a new one.
Different brand,? Doesn't really matter.

Take the wiring harnesses of these cars for example.
All cars need them. The manufactures don't give two cents of a fasck where the harnesses come from, they still have a SUPER lucrative deal with the suppliers.

And that's why I think all cars are equal.

Because at the end of the day, it's basically up to the 'original purchasers' to "ADHERE" to the manufactures instructions to keep the vehicle maintained.

I can see a shit storm coming now, from THIS comment.

My thoughts.

My Life.

Deal with it.

Manufacturers make more money on maintenance than the sale of the car. So they don't necessarily want the car to die just one day after the warranty expires.
I'm sure it's a battle between the engineers and accountants, but a car should last 10 years, after which it will come down to how well it's been looked after and how much you want to keep it. Also depends on how much manufacturer support the vehicle has long term. Toyota are easily the best for this, they still make parts for long since discontinued vehicles.

I knew someone who had a Renault Megane RS special edition, and it required a headlight. It took Renault 9 months to get one, because it was unique to that particular edition. This was a only a year old car, so can you imagine if it was 10 years old how hard it would be to get. You would have to scrap the car for the sake of a headlight.

Newer cars from China are a different matter, I think you'd be lucky to keep them on the road longer than 5 years.

A guy posted about his relatively new Honda.
The car was involved in a not at fault accident.
A piece of broken glass cut a small nick in the front passenger seat.
The rest of the damage to his car was repaired after a few weeks.
He waited another month and no one could give him a definite answer when the replacement seat cover would arrive, so he asked if he could have his car back and then return the car when the part arrived.
The insurance company would not let have his car back until the seat was fixed.
In the end he had a rental car for over 6 months.

The L300 non 4x4 was quite common once. (had one myself)

Always thought it was rare to see an L200 ute, just don't see them anywhere and can not remember the last time I've spotted one.

There was a guy I went to TAFE with who had one and remember sitting in the tub, while he drove us around Randwick college.

Saw a White Mazda R100 today.
Definitely a car I had not thought of in a long time.
I remember back in the late 80's when I used to peruse the Trading Post, that even back then they were hard to find, so would be a very rare car now.
Photo is a representation. The rear tail lights give them away when you see one.
