JUCY that sucks big time mate, I hope you get to the bottom of this, pm me with all the details have some connections who may know where abouts are the owners hopefully.
Not to raise any alarm bells and knowing alot about the koni product which is damn reliable the "IF" factor re any problem in the future without an invoice leaves you high and dry but to pay for any repairs "if" it ever happens.

B!oody stinks though what these guys had done, no wonder they were throwing away top branded products for ridiculous prices straight to market.

Yeah everything's settled in Shav. From the initial install, the springs have probably dropped another 1-2mm....ride is a LOT firmer than what it used to be!

THE GOOD
Body-roll has been virtually eliminated, the car is a lot more smoother taking corners (esp. at speed), steering feels more precise..

THE BAD
NVH is increased - you can feel (and usually hear) every little bump on the road, took a little while to adjust to......BIG bumps are definately not liked!!

Some roadworks on Ferntree Gully Rd near Eastlink, they've dug out half the road layers so there is a point where it feels like you're going up a staircase at 60km/h - sounds like the axle is being ripped off the car!

Scraping.......some speed bumps, rear muffler(??) will sometimes scrape when rear wheels go over....cringe every time I hear the noise! Also some driveways as well......

Would I change back?? - NO WAY :evil3:

Quick question - would there be anything else (bushes etc) that may be contributing to the firm ride - is there anything that could be done to take some of the NVH away?

You could lay down some better underlay under your carpet and add in sound deadening materials in other noisy locations (rear wheel arches, boot floor)
Also, you could check if you are running your tyre pressures too high.

Hard to reduce the amount of NVH with a setup like this. My guess is for you to adjust your shocks a little to find a happy medium.

There will always be a trade off to having lowered/sports suspension, and one thing speed humps as well as road bumps and pot holes etc. I too have noticed this, but only with passengers in the car. Never on my own. Dont ask me why. lol

If noise is your enemy in all this, I would suggest you look at some kind of sound deadener to add to your flooring and/or doors.

You will unfortunately be able to feel and notice every single bump from now on as the body is more rigid. For me, I dont mind it. But there is a very fine balance to find when looking for both full comfort and handling.

You could opt also to go for rubber bushes as opposed urethane. I find rubber is more 'giving' and can absorb some harshness a little better and minor trade off to 'handling feedback'.

The noise isn't a masive issue....it's not terrible or anything.....the shocks are on the softest setting already so I guess I can't do much on that front!

One day may look at some sound deadening stuff.......maybe the paint-on stuff in the wheelwells - like low_au_classic has done....

As far as tyre pressures - I'm on 18's.....Im running 38psi.....does that sound right? And isn't the rule of thumb once you've driven more than about 1km, u need to add 3psi to your measurements if you go to the DIY servo tyre pumps?

Not sure on the tire pressure aspect. But I would assume that 38psi is ok for what your running on an everyday basis.

It could also be your tread pattern that would contribute to road noise?

But consider replacing certain aspects of your bushes using rubber as opposed to urethane for some added comfort.

Was thinking about upgrading swaybars down the track.....27mm whiteline non-adjustable most likely....

D bushes - If anything, wouldn't they be under less stress? Swaybars job is to reduce bodyroll, and now with the lowered springs helping to do that job, by definition wouldn't that place less stress on the swaybar mounts/bushes?

Your probably right Dave. Im probably thinking of the link pin bushes that they attach to.

I have Whiteline 27mm non adj sway at the front, and I think a 20mm rear sway, and have found the cornering advantages there can be felt when pulling out of a corner fast.

Back on topic though, might I suggest, you take your car down to Pedders for a suspension check for $14 and see if there are any further things they can suggest to help assist your noise issues.

Not a bad price but I would be getting other quotes, I got a complete set of Koni Yellows for $1300 supply from Wholesale Suspension in Penrith (were a bit cheaper than expected, someone stuffed up the paperwork), install should be around $200 at most for an AU with IRS.

I paid 700 for the rears and 550 for the fronts all yellows in AU IRS. From fulcrum

I actually rang GT Suspension probably about a month or so after you bought your Konis Dave to get a set of Yellows for my XR with IRS. They quoted me $1550 for front and rear konis : I asked if they could repeat the same price that they did for Dave and they replied saying that it was a once off sale and that $1550 was the cheapest that they will go. Did a bit of ringing around and the cheapest and best place i could get mine from were Wilkinson Suspension here in Perth for just under $1400.

I know this is a super old thread but I got a quote today from Wholesale Suspension in Penrith for my AU2 XR6 Ute.

$1100 total for Yellow fronts and Red rears, he said reds no longer available for the front

Contact www.toperformance.com.au in Melbourne to see if they still have reds.

$1100 for yellows seems about right from memory. I think red's were around the $900 mark for a set.

Koni's are an exceptional brand for performance. Well worth it if you can afford it and justify the use of them. Otherwise consider some of the cheaper brands like BOGE, KYB, and the like.

KYB AGX's from the same mob are $500 a pair. Are you talking about the cooking version KYB's?

From the research I have done (ie not much) there doesnt seem to be much choice in between a $230 pair of Monroe GT's (ebay) or $550 Koni's...

Am I right or are there better shocks than the monroes that dont cost as much as the Konis?
