I don't like the smell of Mothballs. They smell old and musty.
I wouldn't want a 30 year old Falcon to smell that way.

The thing with the newer collectible cars, I would imagine instead of having to repair a part you would be more likely to disconnect the sensor, ICC unit or whatever and replace it with an aftermarket copy part. Possibly made in China because if there's a market for replacement parts someone will jump on it

No different to owning an old 280kw xy ho and having to buy rust repair sections and oh yeah I remember those weak as **** console lids! If there's someone willing to hold onto them there will be someone eager to sell them parts.

Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of burning rubber in the morning!

they way i wrote it, i was out of context. there's not a lot around at the moment that returns 5% nett. now is a time to be buying stocks.
anyone thinking of buying a car for investment is nuts, even in the long term.

Cars are built for a job, but us like minded people see them more than just transport, there part of who we are and part of the family, buying a car to store it in the hopes it goes up in value isn't what being an enthusiast is about, its about the feeling of driving the car and that connection and feeling it gives you

That's never going to work - no new car ever has 0km. I'd at least drive it once every few weeks to keep the seals wet etc.

The money is in Pre 1970s cars or limited edition cars, runs under 500.

When the mustang is old and 5k the XR8 would look like a pile of dung. Everyone will be giving us **** for driving our old petrol cars, all the kids will be driving nuke green cars and bragging about how dangerous 50ron fuel is, probably some flux compasitor bs too.

Infact I think humans will end up looking like the T-Rex dinosaur with no arms if they loose the ability to drive.

Deposits down on mine and when i take delivery I'll be doing what its been designed to do... to be driven, ornaments are ment to be looked at cars are ment to be driven. For sure I'll look after it like a baby, i.e car bra on trips and strategic parking when i go out. But for me I'll use it, there will be nothing better after a crappy day at work walking up to my xr6t sprint and smiling to myself

Big difference between the latest efi and that of the 80's. Now you have a very complex emmissions system, the engine management is tied into three other computers which is connected to the icc and if one fault occurs you're up the creek because everything freaks out. There's stepper motors everywhere too.
My 1989 efi is much simpler that any newer modern Falcon I've worked on..

New cars won't last. No way.

This topic does come up from time to time. Here is a response that I posted nearly three years ago. (Note, before the collapse of the mining industry).

Why are people not learning from the past and why are people getting butt hurt about a bloke who wants to store away his new car because he wants to and because he can??

I wish I did not listen to people when XW's XY's, XA's and XB's were lined up in rows and stacked on top of each other at the local wrecker because lets face it they were just an old falcon that no one wanted and they were worth nothing.

I remember a mate of mine paddock bashing a nice XB GS Falcon sedan we bought for $400 in the trading post with three months rego.

Went to our local wrecker last week and he has nice EF EL and Ba Falcons sitting around everywhere, some with mint interiors, some are stacked three or four high, not even worth stripping, much like XY's Xw's etc were stacked back in the early 80's, and the cycle will continue.

buy a car when the value has bottomed out not brand new
EA-BA's are currently worth nothing
I just sold a nice 5sp ED XR6 for $2k. and that back in the day was a v8 killer and probably equivalent to a current XR6T. I should have kept it but i have other cars i like more to keep like my BA GT, VZ LX8, SWB Vitara Soft Top and HX Kingswood

also those barn find XY GT's are worth the same as a fully restored version. just keep the rust out and keep it complete and it will still hold its value

Odo reset before delivery? Especially if it had 20kms or so on it from being a car that was randomly selected to test quality assurance? (If they did that that is).

There is money to be made.

Buy bog stock base model FGX Falcon 6 cylinder.

Keep it for thirty years.

Then somebody will come along looking for a good FGX to work on so they can build a FGX XR6/8 Sprint replica out of it.

Probably sell for a couple of hundred thousand dollars.

Happy retirement.

I reckon your full of it and in all honesty who knows of a zero k car that has been blocked for the last 20 years in Oz, few and far between I reckon.

Not sure if goo33 will get back on here as he left the building at post 20.

Correct. It had 12kms on it but the salesman took pleasure in resetting it to zero and sending me the photo on email.

If mint condition bog stock, six banger falcons aren't going for a couple of hundred thousand dollars an FGX sure as hell won't. You'd be lucky to break even on rrp...
