Look at the listed "skills" on THIS page, this should help you see what they are looking for in a driver that they feel is ready to drive on their own.

Just remember lerner, this forum is mainly made up of people who have already got their license and don't know the info about new laws, rules and practices when it comes to driving tests/learner log books etc. I have no idea about what learners currently need to get their P's or restrictions on P platers.
All the info I have found for you is from the QLD transport website, you could save yourself some less than helpful comments and do the searching yourself. Don't rely on everyone else to give or find answers for you, try to do it for yourself first, then ask here if you are still stuck. There is always the telephone, last time I checked Qld Trans is still listed in the phone book.

Well in SA, doing the logbook component, there is a section called stop and go using the handbrake, would hate to even try and do it in a toyota avalon, or a Mercedes, I would use the instructors car if they have centre handbrake, might vary from state to state though.
But how are you gonna do a hill start without using the handbrake? even in an auto and escpecially in a behemoth ltd that ways 2 tonne? it's gonna roll backwards on a decent enough hill!

I seem to recall that there's a bunch of people getting round called driving instructors... you can obtain a certain amount of knowledge from them.

Ha ha Lerner is really a lerner, or here to stir you guys up.
You stop with no part of your car over the stop line for 3 seconds (time this by the following, when the car is completely stopped, look right, look left, look right, 1,2,3, get it?) NOW you can reposition forward to get a good view, but your vehicle cannot cause others, to change direction, slow stop or give-way, if you do thats an instant fail, because it's a road law breach.
So you can move up the the red (?) line which could represent parking bays along the intersecting road, but your vehicle should not intrude into the traffic.
IF you observe most people will roll a stop sign at a left turn, due to angles and not being able to see. Not being able to see doesn't matter you car MUST stop for 3 seconds, then move so you can see. If everyone did this we could drive through an intersection with the right of way, with conifidence.

It dosnt really matter, i just yank it back without pressing it. To me its more of a release thing for when im ready to go. Yanking and releasing, that dosnt sound right does it.

Yeah I know, it's one of the things I do for a crust, and parents can make it easier on their kids by arming them with a bit of knowledge, but if they cant do that why not also ask a supposed learned bunch of people ,like on here, or get different opinions so that they can form some knowledge of their own.

They are called learners for a reason.
It's a valid question though, do you always just do what you are told without questioning the reason for it..? Your wife must think you are the best man on earth

it could be done, but it would be very tricky and i'd say dangerous. it would be a lot easier to just leave it in drive, left foot on the brake, right foot on the accelerator and give it a bit of gas, then let go of the brake pedal and hope that the testing officer had enough common sense to see that that's the best approach given the type of car being used. but i may be going off-topic here.

I posted the pic because it is a different old style handbrake and my mum just pulls it which I think is wrong. Also you know those blue reflectors in the middle of the road my driving instructor told me they are for the fire service to find fire hydrants not marking the middle of the road? Do any of you know if this is true?

I just thought they were used where road markings were not painted. Usually see them on newly re-surfaced roads or back streets the council hasn't gotten around to painting. Just keep to the left of them.

If there are parked cars which there are often on these types of streets with those markings do i have to indicate if I pass past the theoretical line that joins up the blue markers?

blue markers dont count. i asked a driving teacher this and he said its best to stay in the inside of them if you can as you're supposed to stay on the left of your lane, but if you cant it's not a big deal like the real centre markers.

YOu know those sun shade visors things on the back of cars is all you have to do to take them off just unscrew the 8 or so plastic screws, there isnt usually glue or anything ther that will tear and wreck the car will it?

All the ones I've encountered have no glue. However, there's always an exception.

Your instructor is right. ALWAYS. You are going to be tested by Qld Transport. Your instructor knows how you will be tested and he will be teaching you how to drive so you can pass a driving test. From then on your on you own. The learning doesn’t stop when you get your licence. It never stops. The ones who stop learning end up on the news. But, until you have the licence you MUST follow the instruction you have been taught.

I've wondered the same thing, as I've seen many cops pass it without coming to a complete stop?

A couple of things

1) Do not abbreviate your words, if you cannot spell get a spell checker.
2) We did not merge all the threads so you can just have your own little section, have a look around the site and post in the right area.
3) At your age, you should use the resources to hand and answer your own question, people have pointed out some of these on line resources, use them.

I did the IQ test yesterday on another thread and scored 139. After reading all this I think I'm -4000. I don't think you deserve a licence after reading some of these questions. You say that you are 20 and had your learners a few years,do us all a favour and catch public transport

Oh boy,
I have my learners now. Have had them for about a month and i am driving fine. I also know the answer to every question you have asked. Just believe what your driver instructor tells you because he will be right.

Anyone know if there is a certain number of times you should check your mirror? like if you are driving in 1 lane straight should you check your mirrors every 7 seconds or something?

Are you serious???? I think this clown is taking the **** and getting a hell of a lot of attention from it.

Lerner, get a clue, if you're serious about all these questions, if i were you i would stick to walking and keep the gloves on so your knuckles don't bleed when they're dragging on the ground.
Darwin was right and we've found the missing link.
