I am tomorrow buying a rover 3.9 v8 that is brand new, never registered in OZ, however I have a problem. Vicroads tell me that they have no record of this engine number (of course) and that i need an import doc about it. Now I believe there isnt one, and I dont think all those japanese imports have them either. So what do i do to register it? How do the jap import engines become registered in the cars they are put into? Also how do they pass ADR 37 (emmissions, no one does tests, too costly.)
I have a receipt from the importer but thats all. Any ideas? All I can think of is to change the engine number to another wrecked block I can buy somewhere... or else not tell them, but I want to as one day I may sell and need proper rego. The engine is going into my TR7. An engineer can give me the certificate, but this doesnt get me round the engine number problem. PLEASE HELP!!! Im stressed, as I have said I will buy the engine!! OK I know sqwat about this. But why th heck to you have t register the engine alone? If you get an engineers certificate then I thought it was ok and then you can register your car with Vicroads.
To be honest its the first Ive heard about registering an engine :/

Show them your reciept because the importer has to have ALL the paperwork or he will be shut down.

I have a car, a TR7, am putting in a worked 3.9 V8 (they came as TR8's with a 3.5 rover) and need an engineers certificate, which isnt a problem, but to get the car on the road, Vicroads needs your engine number. and thats my problem. Ill ring em again.....
By the way, my engine has around 250 to 270 hp!! and the car weighs just 1000kg with it!! Should do 5 seconds to 100 or so, maybe less! anyone driven a powerful small sports car like this? Should be crazy! cant wait to have it on the road!!! |

One way around it is to buy an old rover motor and use the number of it, that way you have an old number and you also have the block to prove it. I use to work at a range rover wreckers and people where doing it all the time. Or you could put the old number on the new block. I no what people are thinking and dont tell me no one has done it before.

rang Vicroads back, the girl was nice, and asked a few people, and all i need is the receipt from the importer stating the engine number....
Dont you hate how you get different stories from the same place!! Cool, I'll pick up the engine today. And I have thought about buying another old engine with a current number and changing numbers, ;-) but maybe i wont need to do that. Ill put up some pics of my car and mods soon. its pretty cool I think! |
