Hi i am after some advice i have a 2001 au forte my problem is that i have had both my hips replaced a number of years ago but now find i have a problem as the are starting to become loose hips that is .The steel bar that forms the base of the seat is putting pressure on my hip joint as there is not much padding between it and my butt
I am thinking of changing the front seats but what i want to know is the seats from the fairmont and fairlane do they have more padding in the base and are they wider than the standard ford. All advice is welcomeold55 |

Have you tried seeing an upholsterer. Maybe they could put more, or better, padding exactly where you want it.
In the seat not you

Have consider that last time i had my hips replaced i am sure the took some fat out of my butt i mean extra padding

Mate in Seris III the seats are all the same just with different covering on them. But AU II & I in the T series had much better seats than the base models so I am guessing Fairmonts/fairlanes would be better also.
Either get yourself down to the wrecker to sit in a few cars (or a car yard and make like your buying) on contact forum sponsors FTG Autosalvage and ask them what the difference is

I've got a set of Fairmont velour seats (AU1) I'm about to chuck out, as Ive replaced them with leather. They're yours for free if you want them. Snag is I'm in Perth!

How much would postage be? If it's half as much as it'd be to get his seat fixed or replaced, then it might still be worth it!

what we used to do with the cabs was simply buy new padding from ford
it just is held in by some clips you just take the seat out of the car, the cloth off the seat, the padding comes out, slip the new padding in, clip the cloth back on, hey presto, feels just like a new seat.

I took my cat down to a auto upholster cause I needed a new cover, but while they were at it I asked them to re bolster the back support and the sides as they had been squashed from getting in and out.
Anyway long story short, it cost me about $100 and that was last year cheers

I also had the same problem, so I removed the seat and put two layers of carpet between the base and the foam. It lasted for about a year. I then bought a new foam insert and if I remember it cost about fifty dollars. I would really like to replace the front seats . Suggestions please!

another vote for see the upholsterer , get it fixed exactly how you like it.... stuff the cost.
