Default Van ideas?

Hey guys, the band i'm in is planning a little sydney mini tour over a long weekend in the next few months and were thinking about getting a cheap van to take up and back and then sell when we're home again.

Just wondering what's a good, reliable van to look out for, not over $1500ish though.

Also, any idea where I could find a more 'commercial' type of van second hand? You know the kind of 10 seaters that people use for sports excursions etc. We're hoping to find one and rip out the back few seats to put the gear in there as we'd rather not take a trailer and don't think the typical tarago's etc will fit 5 people and their gear.

Been looking around wreckers, ebay, trading post etc but no luck.

Cheers!

You don't want a van, you want a bus. Try a Nissan URVAN, if you look in the right places you might get one for free.

Toyota, might get an old Tarago if they haven't all been bought up my middle easterners ( thats about all they drive here in Perth), or Mitsubishi star wagon.

Yeeah, that's what i'm after. A mini bus sorta thing.

Any hints/directional tips for cheap ones? They all seem to be $5000 + =/

NOT A Mitsubishi Star Wagon! It's the only van/car/truck/bike whatever that i could seriously get out and run faster than - i know we're talking vans and speed isnt a high priority but these things are GUTLESS. The quality is also rather bad both inside and out - got nothing on a Tarago.

For $1500 you're better off renting one. Atleast it wont break down and will come with all the mod cons. You could easily get away with less than that much renting one over a long weekend.

PM me if you want more advice, as I work for a commercial vehicle rental company and I should be able to help you out.

We initially thought that. But we're all under 21, so rental companies won't allow us to hire them. Unless there is a way around it?

We could probably stretch the budget to about $2000, maybe a little over.

Try looking for a Nissan E20 15 seater, they are not a bad rig, standard Nissan 4cyl, 5sp on the tree and very cheap. They were made around 1980. Just don't have a crash in one!
