Nothing wrong with gear drives. I like the sound myself and will be putting a set in my XT 351. No different than having an exhaust note that I like in my mind. You can't get them for a EB 4.0 if that's what your getting at, as far as I know anyhow...

Try eBay. I've got a mate that wants a set aswell, and when he finally gets around to building his motor, that's where we'll be checking first. I know this doesn't answer your question of an average price, but if a set pops up, it's kind of hard to pick what it'll go for.

Try here it will give you a bit of an idea as to the prices

If there was one engine that should not have a gear drive it is a Clevo, now why you ask it is because of the harmonics they play hell with the valve train you will chew out valve Colet's in record time they give you no real benefit, if you like the noises by A blower. Now i am not just talking through my bum here i have tried a couple of time to run one. Ever wonder why most engine builders don't recommend them. END :

Pretty much so, but don't just stop at Clevo's... Gear drive would be a much cheaper option for car-makers. If they were any good, they would use them.

Honda VTR1000SP's use a gear drive quad over-head cam setup, and as soon as the slightest bit of wear develops in the gears, they're shagged.

Also one question- how do you plan to adjust the backlash?
